In today’s economy, districts across the state have seen unprecedented budgetary cut-backs, affecting all facets of education-including staffing. With this said, a well-presented and equally impressive professional resume is essential when seeking employment as a professional educator. A skillfully constructed resume is a valuable tool for potential employers and will be quick to give a first impression as to the qualifications of the applicant.
I created my resume early in the MAT program and have made updates throughout. With a lack of work history due to my focus on post-graduate work, I chose to emphasize my educational background, impressive academic standing and accomplishments, and school experiences. As I periodically make updates to the document, I find one or two ways in which I can make the tool more effective, always bearing in mind that the information should always be clear and concise.
It is safe to say that a resume written five years ago does not rate the same approval today. Employers now expect to be wowed and amazed by a single page; therefore, the information that I choose to put on that single page is critical to procuring a position. A highly effective resume is to be considered a fluid instrument by its very design and should be in keeping with the current times.
